from the weekend
Berner came up last weekend on a cheap Allegiant flight from the Bay Area... we proceeded to enjoy some brews and get ready for snowboarding. Long story short... lots of good runs on Saturday. Sunday started off rainy and then eventually came around to snow. We embraced the cold and wet (I was completely drenched, base layer and all, by day's end) and everyone left the mountain, leaving us with fresh powder runs over and over again. We'd take a line and the snow filled them up by the time we got back to the top. "Epic" is a pretty apt descriptor of the weekend, riding at Mt. Baker, and time well spent with a good friend.

pictures of recent adventures
Birthday party courtesy of my Tribe! Big numba 3-0!
The reason I came to Washington. The Bald Eagle, Haliaeetus leucocephalus washingtoniensis. This is a sub-adult... maybe 3-4 years old. Didn't even move when I pulled over my car not 20 feet from it. It was on a lower pole, so I could actually get a decent shot. Still, I could get a better camera. Also from Boundary Bay.
Jake visited for 10 days. It was wonderful. This is us south of UBC on a day we decided to have Vietnamese food for lunch in Vancouver.
Most of the crew who was at Mt. Baker on Dec. 30th, which was a pretty epic powder day!
I've been birding a lot recently... this is my favorite recent one: A Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiaca) and Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) searching for voles around 10am in Boundary Bay Regional Park, British Colombia. If I had a sweet, expensive camera I'd have some action shots from when the heron snapped at an owl that was in its way! Great spot, awesome light with heavy clouds and the sun rays filtering through the bottoms like molten rock pouring out of the sky... with the Cascades and Mt. Baker looming on the horizon. A great way to spend a Sunday morning.
