So, from 12:30am~9:15am we rocked the summit "day
hike." Then we rested for an hour or so and begun an extra 5,000 foot
descent from Barafu Camp to Mweka Camp (3100m) for an easier hike out the next day. I was pretty
destroyed.... 13 hours of hiking total. about 17 miles total. 9,000 feet down
and 4,000 feet up. Plus elevation, lack of sleep and hiking under the near-full
moon for most of the ascent (12:30~4:15am).... it was a wild day! By the time
we got to Mweka around 5:00pm on Day #7, I was ready to melt into my sleeping
bag. But of course, we had tea and popcorn and then dinner... all prepared by
our awesome support team.
MORE to go??
Everlasting flowers
More foliage grows as we descend further and further
Famous "Elephant Flower" Impatiens kilimanjari in the rainforest on the way down. This flower is also on our completion certificates.
No joke... rainforest... mud and huge trees.... and humidity too.
Yay, we're almost done
Off with the heavy layers, hats and long underwear. We finished in T-shirts and shorts.
And saw some wildlife too... more on this in the upcoming safari posts!
